Springtime means Ohio State Football is Back! Day 1

Jim Tressel talks to the media (megasportsnews.com)

It wasn’t too long ago that  the Buckeyes were heading off  to the 2010 Rose Bowl to play the explosive Oregon Ducks and we were all wondering  if they could stop the recent string of disappointing Bowl losses and if Terrelle Pryor would respond on the national stage and if the Buckeyes would finally get the national media off their backs?

Well, all of those questions were answered on that January 1 game in Pasadena, California: the Ducks were shut down; the bowl losses were put to a screeching halt; Terrelle Pryor performed like he was a Heisman candidate and the Buckeyes gained the national media’s respect once again.

Now, spring is upon us and OSU Football is back in the news for the rest of April and still there are questions that will have to be answered in 14 practices and the spring game on April 24 in Ohio Stadium.

One thing about Ohio State football, they remake or reload, not rebuild.  The questions center around offensive tackle, Terrelle Pryor’s knee, the defensive line and the safeties.

Expectations are very sky high coming off a fifth-straight Big Ten title, an 11-2 season, a Rose Bowl victory over Oregon and an 8-game home schedule and only 4 road games.

Who will play Left tackle to replace Jim Cordle?

This position has been a question mark for years. Jim Cordle ended up playing there out of necessity.  There are plenty of candidates in the wings: Mike Adams, Andrew Miller and Marcus Hall.  Coach Jim Tressel told us on Thursday that position aren’t really won in the spring because they have to wait for the recruits to come to camp in August.

Who replaces Kurt Coleman and Anderson Russell at safety?

Jermale Hines is one starter but there are other players to consider. Ohrian Johnson, Tyler Moeller, Jamie Woods and Nate Oliver. There is no clear cut starter amonst those players.

Is Terrelle Pryor’s left knee a concern?

This has been the talk of the town since Pryor suffered the partially torn ligament last October and had arthroscopic surgery in early February.  But it seems that Pryor is ready to participate in spring drills. But expect alot of reps from backup quarterbacks Joe Bauserman and Kenny Guiton, Jr. which can’t be all bad because they need to be ready for the fall anyway. Remember, a backup player is one injury from playing anyway.
