Anderson moves from Missouri to take Arkansas job

Mike Anderson is returning home to Arkansas to become the new men’s basketball coach.

Anderson leaves the Missouri Tigers program that he revived five years ago to return to the school where he was an assistant to Nolan Richardson for 17 seasons. He takes the place of John Pelphrey, who was fired 11 days ago on March 13.

Anderson, who also revived the basketball program at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, was 111-57 at Missouri, including an appearance in the Elite Eight in 2009. The Tigers were 23-11 this year, losing to Cincinnati in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Anderson assured Missouri fans that he was going to stay put just six days earlier when rumors surfaced that he was the favorite to take the Razorbacks job.

Since the popular Nolan Richardson left in 2002, Stan Heath and John Pelphrey have not made Arkansas fans have with their double-digit losses in the Southeastern Conference.
