“D-Train” Dontrelle Willis signs contract with Reds

Dontrelle Willis’ latest comeback will be the Cincinnati Reds. He has agreed to a minor league contract.

Willis was the National League Rookie of the Year in 2003, helping the Florida Marlins win the World Series that same year.

However, the 28-year-old has struggled the last few years, going 13-24 with a 5.81 ERA since the start of the 2007 season.

Willis went 1-6 in 2008 and 2009 combined for Detroit.

Detroit then traded him to the Arizona Diamondbacks where he went 1-1 with a 6.85 ERA, had 27 walks in 22 1/3 innings. He was then designated for assignment.

The San Francisco Giants signed him to a minor league deal in July, but he became a free agent after the World Series ended.
