ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio football team is set to travel to Columbus, Ohio, when they take on the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, Sept. 13. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and can be seen on Peacock with Paul Burmeister, Chris Simms and Zora Stephenson.
The Bobcats’ matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield, presented by Holzer Health System. Veteran Ohio radio personality Marty Bannister is reprising his role as Ohio’s play-by-play broadcaster. Bannister will be joined by color analyst Rob Cornelius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for more than two decades.
SERIES HISTORY VS. OSU
The Bobcats and the Buckeyes first met in 1899, posting an 0-6 record.
SCOUTING OSU
Ohio State is coming off a 70-0 victory over Grambling State (Sept. 6), marking the team’s first shutout since a year prior when the Buckeyes blanked the Western Michigan Broncos (Sept. 7, 2024). Currently, Ohio State shares the nation’s longest active winning streak with six consecutive wins.
The Buckeyes are currently 2-0, averaging 42 points on 175.5 rushing yards and 251.5 passing yards per game.
Sophomore quarterback Julian Sayin leads Ohio State in the air, going 31-for-39 with one interception with five touchdowns on 432 yards. Junior quarterback Lincoln Kienholz is currently 6-for-7 with one touchdown on 71 yards.
On the ground, senior running back CJ Donaldson has 24 touches and two touchdowns on 112 yards, while sophomore running back James Peoples is responsible for 18 carries on 79 yards.
Freshman running back Bo Jackson ran for his first career touchdown on an 11-yard carry. Jackson led the Buckeyes against Grambling State (Sept. 6) in rushing with 108 yards on nine carries. Jackson is the first true freshman with 100 yards rushing in a game since Dallan Hayden vs. Maryland in 2022. Freshman Isaiah West and sophomore Sam Dixon have also been productive for the Buckeyes, each responsible for a touchdown apiece.
Sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Smith leads the receivers with 11 catches on 162 yards, boasting two touchdowns. Smith’s longest reception clocks in at 87 yards. Junior wide receiver Carnell Tate matched Smith with two touchdowns; over two games, Tate amassed 118 yards on seven receptions. Graduate student tight end and former Bobcat Will Kacmarek has appeared in both games for the Buckeyes; he is responsible for one touchdown, two catches and 55 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, junior linebacker Arvell Reese leads OSU with 13 tackles—five of which were solo stops. Reese also recorded one tackle for loss and one sack. Senior cornerback Davison Igbinosun and sophomore safety Jaylen McClain are just behind Reese with 12 tackles apiece; McClain currently holds a team-high in solo tackles (9), while senior defensive end Caden Curry leads in tackles for loss (2) and boasts 10 total tackles.
Senior kicker Jayden Fielding amassed 712 yards on 11 kickoffs, while junior kicker Jackson Courville was responsible for the other three Buckeyes’ kickoffs. Ohio State is currently 12-for-12 on PATs, with Fielding claiming eight and Courville kicking four. Over the first two games, the Buckeyes have yet to kick a field goal or punt.
