The Redshirt Sophomore Leads Dayton In Tackles This Season
ST. LOUIS – The Pioneer Football League announced its weekly awards and recognized University of Dayton’s Vincent Firenze as the PFL Defensive Player of the Week.
Firenze led a Dayton unit that tossed a shutout in a 38-0 victory against Division II Thomas More on Saturday. He recorded six tackles (two solo) and also had an interception and a pass breakup. Firenze’s interception came on the first play of a Thomas More drive and led to Dayton’s first touchdown. His pass breakup came on a third-down play, forcing a punt in the third quarter.
Dayton held Thomas More to 200 offensive yards, 11 first downs, and a 2-of-11 third-down conversion rate.
This is the first honor for Firenze this season and the first for a Flyer just two games into the campaign.
Dayton heads into the bye week with a 1-1 record overall, and returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20 at Robert Morris.
