Actor Jack Betts, who played the sinister Dr. Ivan Kipling on One Life to Live, dies at 96

Jack Fillmore Betts, also credited as Hunt Powers, (April 11, 1929 – June 19, 2025) was an American character actor. He acted in film, on stage, and on television. He starred in several Spaghetti western films such as Sugar Colt.

A native of Jersey City, New Jersey, Betts said he was related to the 13th U.S. president, Millard Fillmore.

Betts was great friends with Everybody Loves Raymond actress Doris Roberts, with whom he shared a home and escorted her to events throughout Hollywood from the late 1980s until she passed in 20216.

A member of The Actors Studio, Betts portrayed Llanview Hospital doctor Ivan Kipling on ABC’s One Life to Live from 1979-85, and his soap opera résumé also included stints on General HospitalThe Edge of NightThe DoctorsAnother WorldAll My ChildrenSearch for TomorrowGuiding LightLoving and Generations.

Betts died on June 19, 2025, in Los Osos, California, at the age of 96.
