The Phillies have placed outfielder Brandon Marsh on the 10-day injured list (retro to 4/17) with a right hamstring strain. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, outfielder Cal Stevenson was recalled from triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski made the announcement.
Marsh, 27, has appeared in 14 games in center field (12 starts) and four games in left field (2 starts) for the Phillies to start the season. He has walked seven times over 51 plate appearances for a 13.7 percent walk rate that ranks in the 86th percentile according to Statcast, and third on the Phillies (min. 50 PA) behind Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper (both 19.1%).
Originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft, the Buford, Ga., native was acquired by the Phillies from the Angels for Logan O’Hoppe on Aug. 2, 2022.
Stevenson, 28, began the season with the IronPigs and has reached base safely in each of his last 10 games since April 6, hitting .226 (7-31) with a .385 on-base percentage, three doubles, two RBI, eight walks, eight runs and four stolen bases in that span. Defensively, he has made seven starts in center field, five starts in left field and three starts in right field. A native of Fremont, Calif., Stevenson appeared in 18 games with the Phillies in 2024 over two stints with the club.
Originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 2018 MLB Draft, Stevenson was claimed off waivers by the Phillies from the San Francisco Giants on May 26, 2023.
