Pittsburgh Pirates announce Alternate Training Site plans for April

March 29th, 2021

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced the club will utilize three different facilities as the club’s Alternate Training Site in the city of Pittsburgh during the month of April. The announcement was made by General Manager Ben Cherington.

Each day during the month of April, members of the alternate training site will use a locker room at Heinz Field to serve as a home clubhouse.

The group will either work out at PNC Park or travel to play against other alternate training site teams in Columbus and Toledo, Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky, on days when the Pirates are not playing at PNC Park.

When the Pirates are playing games at PNC Park during the month of April, members of the alternate training site will have workouts that take place at Charles. L. Cost Field on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh. There will be no alternate training site games that take place in Pittsburgh in April.

“The Pirates organization is extremely grateful to both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the University of Pittsburgh for allowing our players and staff to use their first-class facilities during the first month of the season,” said Cherington. “It is a great example of the unique bond each of the professional teams and Pitt share with each other and part of what makes Pittsburgh such a special place.”
