Four Women Buckeyes Honored with Big Ten Awards: Greene, McMahon, Cambridge and Thierry

Jaloni Cambridge led the Buckeyes as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

 

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced its women’s basketball awards on Tuesday following the conclusion of the regular season. Four Buckeyes were honored by the conference’s head coaches and media members, including graduate guard Madison Greene being named Ohio State’s Sportsmanship Honoree for the season.

Among Big Ten head coaches, junior forward Cotie McMahon and freshman guard Jaloni Cambridge were both unanimous selections to the All-Big Ten First Team. Cambridge was also named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. Senior guard/forward Taylor Thierry was named to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team. Before Cambridge, McMahon was the most recent Buckeye to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, doing so in 2023.

Among the media voters, Cambridge was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, to the All-Big Ten Second Team and to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. McMahon was again on the All-Big Ten First Team. Thierry earned a spot on both the Big Ten All-Defensive Team and All-Big Ten Honorable Mention list.

Cambridge has also been named to the USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Year midseason top 50 list, USBWA National Freshman of the Week, Big Ten weekly honor roll (twice) and led the conference with four Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors this season. Cambridge is tied for 11th in the Big Ten with 16.0 points per game and also ranks fourth in steals (2.12 per game), 12th in assists (3.88 per game) and 12th in assist/turnover ratio (1.59). She is one of only eight players in the conference and the only Buckeye to record more than one 30-point game this season. Cambridge scored 33 points in last week’s win against Michigan State – the most points by a Buckeye freshman since Kelsey Mitchell. Cambridge leads the team with nine 20-point games and 97 assists.

McMahon has also been named a Cheryl Miller Award top 10 finalist (and preseason watch list), to the preseason watch list and midseason team for the Naismith Trophy, to the preseason watch list, midseason top 25 and late midseason top 20 lists for the Wooden Award, to the USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Player of the Year midseason top 50, All-Big Ten Preseason Team and to the Big Ten weekly honor roll (twice). This season, McMahon ranks ninth in the Big Ten with 16.9 points per game and has six 20-point games. She has recorded two double-doubles (15p/10r at Nebraska and 16p/11 at Rutgers) this season

Thierry was named to the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year watch list and to the Big Ten weekly honor roll on Jan. 27. Thierry ranks second in the Big Ten with 2.38 steals per game and posted a career-high seven steals against Youngstown State, the second-most among conference players in a game this season. Thierry has three 20-point games this season, all in conference play, and recorded a double-double against Ohio (13p/10r) in November. Thierry leads the Buckeyes with 69 steals this season.

Greene is averaging 4.4 points, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game this season, also being called upon to make four starts. She has scored in double figures three times this season, including a season-high 15 points on 3-of-6 three-point shooting against Stanford.
