MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – On October 15, Robert Morris was selected to finish ninth in the 2024-25 Horizon League Preseason Poll. Fast forward 139 days and 23 wins later, the Colonials are regular season conference champions and can boast about taking home three superlative postseason awards.
The league announced Monday that Alvaro Folgueiras is the Player of the Year, Amarion Dickerson is the Defensive Player of the Year and Andy Toole is the Coach of the Year. Additionally, Folgueiras has been named All-League First Team. Kam Woods has been named All-League Second Team along with Dickerson, who was also a member of the All-Defensive Team and a finalist for the Sportsmanship Award.
Folgueiras finished the regular season averaging 14.3 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 56.4% from the field, which is the best in the conference. Nationally, his 289 rebounds are 14th best and 7.0 defensive rebounds per game is 12th in the country. He has recorded 12 double-doubles, 23 double-figure scoring games and 15 games posting double-digit rebounds. A three time Horizon League Player of the Week, Folgueiras scored a career-high 35 points in the win at Northern Kentucky on February 8.
Dickerson is second in the HL and fifth nationally with 76 blocks. His 2.5 blocks per contest is second in the league and 10th in the NCAA. Dickerson’s 6.1 rebounds per game is 10th best in the conference. He set a new RMU school record with eight blocks against Detroit Mercy on February 5, breaking his previous record of seven and he became RMU’s single-season shot block leader in just 17 games this year. He has recorded six games with at least four blocks and 23 double-figure scoring game with five of those over 20 points. Dickerson posted career-highs of 27 points and 15 rebounds with five blocks vs. Northern Kentucky on December 29.
Woods led RMU in scoring with 14.6 points per game. Despite missing five games with an injury, he finished second in the HL with 133 assists, 5.1 assists per game and 1.8 steals per game. He was named the February 24 Player of the Week after averaging 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 10.0 assists per game over the two contests, posting an assist-to-turnover ratio of 6.7 while shooting 50% (14-of-28) from the field in wins over Green Bay and Milwaukee. Woods finished with 20 double-figure games, seven of those scoring 20+, two games with over 10 assists and four double-doubles.
Toole earns his first Horizon League Coach of the Year honor. He took a team that had 10 wins last season and a roster that saw significant turnover and led the Colonials to the most wins since 2013 when they recorded 24 and the .742 winning percentage is the highest since the 2008 squad won .765 of its games. Nationally, RMU is ranked in the CollegeInsider Men’s Mid Major Top 25® at number 22. This is Toole’s second coach of the year honor, winning the Northeast Conference award in 2014.
RMU (23-8) will host a quarterfinal game in the 2025 Barbasol Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship at the UPMC Center on Thursday, March 6, with tipoff set for 8 p.m. The Colonials will face the lowest remaining seed after the first round.
