SATURDAY: Miami returns to Millett Hall for a non-conference contest versus Troy University on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m., as part of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge. The RedHawks previously defeated Appalachian State 77-63 in their first contest of the Challenge. Miami is looking to extend its home win streak to 11 games this Saturday. Entering this game, the RedHawks rank seventh nationally in effective field goal percentage (0.580), fifth in three-point percentage (.395), ninth in field goal percentage (.494), 15th in threes per game (10.4), 25th in scoring offense (82.0), 33rd in turnovers forced per game (14.91) and 42nd in turnover margin (2.9). Miami also leads the MAC in seven statistical categories, including steals per game (8.5).
RECENT ACTION: The Miami University men’s basketball team took down Central Michigan Tuesday night 76-70 in Mount Pleasant, Mich. Peter Suder led all players with 21 points, while three other RedHawks scored in double figures. Elmer played the most minutes of his career (36:44) and brought down a game-high nine rebounds. Antwone Woolfolk led all players with two blocks. Miami shot 49.1% (27-of-55) from the field. With a 9-1 conference record, the RedHawks are off to their best start in MAC play since the 1998-99 season.
ABOUT TROY: Troy is coming off a 20-12 (13-5 MAC) season in 2023-24. Head coach Scott Cross is in his sixth season with the Trojans. Heading into the 2024-25 season, the Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll picked the Trojans to finish third in the conference. Myles Rigsby was a First Team Preseason All-Sun Belt selection and Tayton Conerway was selected to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team.
Troy is currently 15-8 (8-4 Sun Belt), having dropped its last game at James Madison 64-61. They share an 8-4 conference record with four other members of the Sun Belt. Troy’s top scorers include Conerway (13.0) and Rigsby (10.9). Conerway also leads the team in both assists (5.0) and steals (3.0) per game. He is third in the nation in total steals and fourth in steals per game. Dowd Thomas leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per game, and Jerrell Bellamy has recorded the most blocks per game (0.9). As a team, the Trojans ranked 14th in the country in offensive rebounds (14.0) and 21st in steals per game (9.3).
THE SERIES WITH THE TROJANS: Saturday will mark the third time Miami and Troy have faced off. The RedHawks head into this game tied 1-1 in the series. Miami has the advantage in Oxford, 1-0. The last time Miami faced off with the Trojans, the Red and White dropped 73-60 in Troy on Dec. 3, 2011.
