Miami Redhawks with Strong MAC Conference Start, visits NIU Tonight at 7

TUESDAY: Miami hits the road on a five-game win streak and prepares for its fourth conference contest of the season at Northern Illinois on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. ET. Heading into this game, the RedHawks rank fifth nationally in effective field goal percentage (0.588), seventh in threes per game (11.2), seventh in three-point percentage (.404), 12th in field goal percentage (.499), 13th in turnovers forced per game (16.13) and 14th in turnover margin (4.9). Miami also leads the MAC in 10 statistical categories, including scoring offense (83.5).

ABOUT NORTHERN ILLINOIS: Northern Illinois is coming off an 11-20 (5-13 MAC) season in 2023-24. Head coach Rashon Burno is in his fourth season with the Huskies. Heading into the 2024-25 season, the MAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll picked the Huskies to finish 11th in the conference.

Northern Illinois is currently 4-11 (0-3 MAC), having dropped its last three games. The Huskies have four players who average double figures in scoring, which includes Quentin Jones (15.8), James Dent Jr. (12.8), Quaran McPherson (10.4) and Ethan Butler (10.2). Jones also leads the team in assists per game (3.1), and Dent Jr. has recorded the most rebounds per game (5.1). Butler leads the team in blocks per game (1.4), while McPherson (1.2) and Jones (1.1) lead the team in steals per contest.

THE SERIES WITH THE HUSKIES: Tuesday will mark the 57th time Miami and Northern Illinois have faced off. The RedHawks head into this game leading the series 35-21. Northern Illinois leads the series in DeKalb 15-11. The last time Miami faced off with the Huskies, the Red and White fell 59-62 on Feb. 6, 2024 in Oxford.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks continue conference play on the road by traveling to Kent State Saturday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT: The Miami University men’s basketball team soared past Western Michigan 91-71 Saturday afternoon. Kam Craft led all players with 23 points, while three other RedHawks scored in double figures. With this victory, the RedHawks are 3-0 in conference play for the first time since the 2005-06 season. The Red and White also recorded over 20 assists for the fifth game in a row and shot over 50% from the field for the eighth time this season.
