DAYTON, Ohio – The Marshall University Men’s Basketball team (5-5) dropped its road contest 88-79 Wednesday night in Dayton, Ohio, to the Wright State Raiders (7-5).

“Another tough one on the road,” Herd Men’s Basketball Head Coach Corny Jackson said. “You can’t spot these guys (points). I think we were down 11 at the half. We spotted them 11 points. Then we came out and we were the more desperate team in the second half and won that half by two. I was proud of the way we fought back, but at the same token we need to find a way to put a complete game together.”

Mikal Dawson finished with a team-high 20 points on a 50 percent shooting night (8-for-16) from the field. Dezayne Mingo recorded 17 points, five rebounds and four assists with Obinna Anochili-Killen and Cade Gibbs each closing the contest with 11 points.

Freshman Kaiden White made the first two threes of his collegiate career, finishing with six points.

Despite trailing for the majority of the first 36 minutes, including by as many as 15, 37-22 with 1:19 left in the first half, and 10, 73-63, at the 7:21 mark in the second half, The Herd chipped away at the Raiders lead and continued to fight.

With five points from both Anochili-Killen and Dawson, three from Mingo and a run concluding jumper by Jakob Gibbs, Marshall took a 78-76 lead with 2:34 remaining after a 15-4 run.

Wright State answered with a run of its own concluding the contest on a 12-1 advantage to end The Herd’s comeback.

MU shot 43.8 percent from the field (28-for-64), including 36 percent from behind the arc (9-for-25).
