COLUMBUS, Ohio — No. 1 seed and top-ranked Ohio State (13-1-3) battles No. 7 seed Michigan (8-3-7) for the 2024 Big Ten Tournament Title at 3 p.m. Sunday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium
Ohio State reach the championship and the right to host the title game with a 3-1 win over Washington in the league semifinals last Sunday at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois. The Wolverines and UCLA Bruins battled to a double-overtime 1-all draw before Michigan advanced in penalty kicks (4-2).
- The league coaches named Brian Maisonneuve the unanimous 2024 Big Ten Coach of the Year following Ohio State’s 12-1-3 record-setting regular-season campaign. In another unanimous vote, senior Michael Adedokun was tabbed the league’s Midfielder of the Year. Ohio State has won the last three awards in that category (Laurence Wootton, 2022-23).
- Adedokun also was named to the All-Big Ten First Team along with defenders Siggi Magnusson and Deylen Vellios. Marko Borkovic and Luciano Pechota were named to the second team. Freshmen David Ajagbe, another unanimous pick, and Nick McHenry were named to the All-Freshman team. Parker Grinstead, Ohio State’s ninth award winner in 2024, made the league’s Sportsmanship Award squad.
- Grinstead was instrumental in Ohio State’s 3-1 win over Washington in the Big Ten Tournament semifinal match against the Huskies last Sunday. He scored twice in about a two-minute span in the second half in the win.
- With its 2-1 win at Maryland Nov. 3, Ohio State clinched the No. 1 seed in the 2024 Big Ten Tournament and a share of the 2024 Big Ten Regular-Season Title.
- The Buckeyes have claimed the league regular-season championship five times (2000-07-09-15-24). Ohio State owns three Big Ten Tournament crowns (2000-07-09).
- Ohio State entered the postseason ranked No. 1 as of the final regular season United Coaches Poll (Nov. 4). The Buckeyes have owned the top spot in the last three polls.
- Ohio State is 23-27-3 overall in the Big Ten tournament. This will be the fifth meeting between Michigan and Ohio State in the event. The Buckeyes are 3-1 to date with the last meeting coming in 2014. No. 2 seed Ohio State defeated No. 7 Michigan 1-0 in Columbus (11/9/14).
- Ohio State and Michigan squared off in Ann Arbor Oct. 4 during the 2024 regular season. The Buckeyes built a 6-1 lead before earning the 6-3 road victory. Marko Borkovic and David Wrona each scored twice with Michael Adedokun and Luciano Pechota each adding a goal in the win. Ashton Bilow was credited with three assists as well.
