OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University men’s basketball team fell to Wright State 81-68 Saturday afternoon in its first home game. Kam Craft led Miami (1-1) with a career-best 23 points, and Eian Elmer was the next closest RedHawk with 12 points. Brandon Noel (27) and Alex Huibregtse (26) led the Raiders (2-1) offensively.

How it Happened:

  • Mekhi Cooper scored the first points of the game with a quick layup to the basket. Elmer found a wide-open Antwone Woolfolk in the paint for a free basket and Craft followed this up with a jumper to give Miami a 7-2 start. The Raiders evened things up at seven apiece before Craft knocked down two shots on back-to-back possessions to lead 12-7. The Raiders looked to pull away at 19-14, but Brant Byers hit his first three of the season and Craft stayed hot, putting in a layup to even things up at 19-19.
  • The Red and White led 28-27 thanks to numerous free throws from Luke Skaljac. Skaljac went on to hit a pair of jumpers to trail by one at 33-32. With under a minute to play in the half, Peter Suder hit a wide-open jump shot after crossing over a defender, and Elmer drilled a shot from beyond the arc to give Miami a 45-42 lead heading into halftime.
  • Craft and Woolfolk came out of the intermission with a pair of layups to keep Miami ahead 49-44. Elmer scored a couple of jump shots in the following two possessions, pushing the score to 54-49 in favor of the RedHawks. Cooper hit a pull-up jumper and Woolfolk backed his way down in the paint for a tough two to stay within three points at 65-62. The Red and White came no closer, falling 81-68.

Game Notes:

  • Elmer totaled three blocks and three steals to lead Miami defensively.
  • Woolfolk led the RedHawks with a career-high 10 rebounds.
