Family Weekend Game Is A White Out

DAYTON — The University of Dayton football team closes the non-conference portion of the 2024 season on Saturday, when the Flyers host Ave Maria.  Game time is 12 Noon ET.  Saturday’s game is part of the University’s Family Weekend, and the game is a “White Out.”  Fans are asked to wear white to the contest.

Dayton is 1-1, after falling on the road 24-13 at Indiana State.  UD’s defense held ISU to 92 yards in total offense but the Sycamores had two first-half defensive scores that led to the result.

Gideon Lampron was named the PFL Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in two games.  The Flyer linebacker had 13 tackles (seven solo) and 2.5 TFL. Lampron leads the PFL in TFL (2.8 per game) and is tied for second in FCS football.

QB Drew VanVleet was 26 of 40 passing for a career-high 291 yards and two touchdowns in the game.  Gavin Lochow hauled in a personal-best nine passes for 65 yards and Jake Coleman caught five passes for a career-high 102 yards.

Saturday’s game is UD’s annual Family Weekend Game, and has been declared a “White-Out.”  Fans are asked to wear white to the game.

Ave Maria is 1-1 on the season, with a road loss at Stetson (41-3) and a home win over Fort Lauderdale (31-7) last Saturday.  The Gyrenes are led by senior running back Bryan Stiemke, a 2023 Third Team NAIA All-American and the Sun Conference Back of the Year.  He ran 15 times for 145 yards in last Saturday’s lightning-shortened win over Fort Lauderdale.

Ave Maria is an NAIA school located near Naples in southwestern Florida.

This is the first meeting between the two schools.

The Flyers entered the season with the fifth-best winning percentage (.711, 180-73) in FCS football since 2000 AND have produced the most football Academic All-Americans (36) in Division I in the same time frame.  The top five in winning percentage are North Dakota State (.804), Montana (.766), Harvard (.751), San Diego (.712) and Dayton (.711).

Dayton plays its 2024 Pioneer Football League opener next Saturday, Sept. 28 at Marist.  UD is back home on Saturday, Oct. 12 against Davidson.  Kickoff for both games is at 12 Noon ET.
