ATHENS, Ohio—The Ohio football team (2-1) hits the road to take on the Kentucky Wildcats (1-2) on Sept. 21. Kickoff is set for 12:45 p.m. ET at Kroger Field and can be seen on SECN with Dave Neal, Aaron Murray and Ashley ShahAhmadi on the call.

The Bobcats’ matchup can also be heard on the Ohio Sports Network from Learfield, presented by Holzer Health System. Veteran Ohio radio personality Marty Bannister is stepping into the 2024 play-by-play role and will be joined by Rob Cornelius, who has been a part of the broadcasts for two decades.

SERIES HISTORY VS. KENTUCKY
The Bobcats and the Wildcats have met five times since 1971, posting a 2-3 record. Ohio last traveled to Lexington, Ky. in 2014, where they fell, 20-3, scoring once in the third quarter with a 44-yard field goal.

SCOUTING KENTUCKY
The Wildcats are currently 1-2 on the season, coming up just short against top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs last Saturday (Sept. 14).

Kentucky led No. 1 Georgia until the fourth quarter, when a three-yard rushing touchdown gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game. A 51-yard Cats field goal cut the deficit to one point, putting the final score at 13-12.

As a team, Kentucky averages 16.33 points per game on 152.3 rushing yards and 109 passing yards.

Junior quarterback Brock Vandagriff is 29-for-55 on 313 yards over three games, throwing three passing touchdowns. His longest pass clocks in at 46 yards. Vandagriff isn’t afraid to use his legs, recording 27 carries on 32 rushing yards as well. Junior quarterback Gavin Wimsatt has also contributed, going 3-for-7 on 14 yards in his one appearance this season.

Senior running back Demie Sumo-Karngbaye leads the Wildcats on the ground with 227 yards on 47 attempts and one touchdown. He’s also recorded three receptions on the season. Freshman running back Jason Patterson made appearances in two of Kentucky’s three games this season, recording 14 carries on 73 yards while redshirt freshman running back Jamarion Wilcox has amassed 51 yards in 11 attempts.

Junior wide receivers Dane Key and Ka’Mori Maclin lead Kentucky; Key has recorded a team-best 119 receiving yards while Maclin is just behind him at 87. Fellow junior wide receiver Barian Brown has scored two of the Wildcats’ three passing touchdowns on seven total receptions while junior tight end Jordan Dingle claimed the third.

Defensively, senior defensive end Zion Childress and senior inside linebacker D’Eryk Jackson lead the team with 15 tackles each. Childress leads the team in solo stops (13) and tackles for loss (5) while Jackson currently leads Kentucky in pass break-ups (2). Junior defensive back Jordan Lovett and sophomore defensive back Ty Bryant have contributed 11 tackles each while senior outside linebacker J.J. Weaver currently has nine tackles, including four solo stops, two tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry and one forced fumble on the season.

Senior kicker Alex Raynor is currently the team’s leading scorer, putting up 25 of the team’s 49 total points across the first three games. Raynor is 7-for-7 on field goals, with his longest clocking in at 55 yards, and 4-for-4 on PATs. Junior punter Aiden Laros accumulated 826 yards across 14 kickoffs, averaging 59 yards per kick. Fellow junior punter Wilson Berry has 11 punts on the season, averaging 41 yards per punt.
