Pirates to receive cash considerations
ANAHEIM – The Angels today acquired RHP Roansy Contreras from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations.
A native of Peralvillo, Dominican Republic, Contreras appeared in 12 games this year for the Pirates, going 1-0 with a 4.41 ERA (16.1 IP – 8 ER) and 16 strikeouts in his first full season as a reliever. He was unscored upon in eight of 12 outings and stranded seven of nine inherited runners.
Contreras, 24, was originally signed as an international free agent in 2016 by the New York Yankees and was traded to the Pirates on January 24, 2021 as part of the deal which brought RHP Jameson Taillon to New York. He was selected to represent Pittsburgh at the 2021 All-Star Futures Game in Colorado and made his Major League debut with the Pirates on Sept. 29, 2021 vs. Chicago (N.L.). In 53 career MLB games (30 starts), he has compiled a record of 9-12 with a 4.83 ERA (182.2 IP – 98 ER) and 161 strikeouts.
