Brazilian international off to hot start in first NWSL season

NEW YORK (May 7, 2023) – The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that Kansas City Current forward Bia Zaneratto has been named the Player of the Month, presented by EA SPORTS, for the months of March and April by the NWSL Media Association and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.

Kicking off her 2024 Golden Boot campaign early, the Brazilian international has enjoyed a hot start to her first season in the NWSL, notching four goals and three assists across the six-match voting cycle. The forward currently ranks among the top five in the league in both goals and assists.

Bia opened her scoring account in her club’s historic regular season-opening match at CPKC Stadium on March 16, tallying a goal in the Current’s 5-4 win over Portland Thorns FC. After helping her team to a 2-1 victory against San Diego Wave FC on March 23, Bia continued her scoring ways on March 30 with a goal and an assist to extend Kansas City’s unbeaten streak with a 4-2 win against Angel City FC.

The Sao Paolo native’s impressive start to the 2024 campaign also included her first NWSL brace and two more assists, including a game-tying feed to teammate Vanessa DiBernardo to kickstart a 3-1 comeback win over Angel City on April 26.

The midfielder played 436 minutes and completed 11 dribbles past opponents throughout March and April, helping her team to an unbeaten 5-0-1 regular season record and a spot atop the league standings through the first six weeks of action.

The NWSL Player of the Month, presented by EA Sports, is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis, and the NWSL’s on-air broadcast talent.
