COLUMBUS, Ohio – It’s March!! The calendar has turned to the best month of the year and Ohio State will close the home portion of the regular season on Sunday by hosting rival Michigan. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be televised nationally on CBS. Spero Dedes and Jim Spanarkel will call the action.
- It’s senior day for Ohio State and the program will celebrate eight seniors prior to the game. The four student-athletes are Jamison Battle, Dale Bonner, Zed Key and Owen Spencer. The four managers are David “Vegas” Cantor, Anthony “Ant” Moyer, Dylan “DP” Parker and Christian “Cheech” Perry.
- Sunday’s game will be the 191st all-time meeting between the two schools. Officially, Ohio State leads the series 101-82.
- The teams have split the last 16 meetings (8-8) and Ohio State holds a slim six-point edge (1,089-1,083) in combined points in those games.
- In the first meeting this season, Ohio State used a 16-0 second half run to take a four-point lead with eight minutes to play. However, Michigan hit a pair of clutch three-pointers down the stretch and would pull-out a 73-65 victory on Jan. 15 at the Crisler Center. Bruce Thornton led the Buckeyes with 19 points while Roddy Gayle Jr. added 12 points. Felix Okpara also had a nice game, finishing with 10 points, nine rebounds and five blocks. The difference in the game came at the three-point line as Michigan shot a then season-best 52 percent (12-of-23) from long range while the Buckeyes were just 3-of-25 for 12 percent.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a solid 78-69 victory over Nebraska on Thursday night in Columbus. Jamison Battle scored a season-high 32 points with four three-pointers and went 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Roddy Gayle Jr. posted the first double-double of his career with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
- Ohio State has won three of the last four games and won back-to-back games for the first time since winning four-consecutive games at the turn of the calendar year.
- Devin Royal scored a season-high 14 points last Sunday at Michigan State and nearly matched that Thursday, finishing with 13 points. He is 10-of-12 from the floor over the last two games.
- The Buckeyes are looking to stay perfect in the CBS spotlight this season as they have won their previous three showcase games on the network this year.
- Michigan enters the game streaking in the wrong direction. The Wolverines have lost six-consecutive games and 15 of the last 17. Dug McDaniel leads three players in double-figures at 16.5 ppg. The Wolverines haven’t made double-figure threes in a game since hitting 12 in the first meeting with the Buckeyes this season.
