The Pittsburgh Pirates during the current offseason, acquired left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzales and cash considerations from the Atlanta Braves for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The 31-year-old Gonzales has compiled a 65-49 record, 4.14 ERA (893.0ip/411er), 238 walks allowed, and 665 strikeouts in 163 appearances (155 starts) during his big league career with St. Louis (2014-17) and Seattle (2017-23).

Gonzales, who was acquired by Atlanta from Seattle on Sunday, has issued 2.26 walks per 9.0 innings since the beginning of the 2018 season, which is the 10th-best rate among all lefthanders in MLB in that time period.

Gonzales went 4-1 with a 5.22 ERA (50.0ip/29er), 18 walks allowed and 34 strikeouts in 10 starts with the Mariners in 2023 before being placed on the injured list for the remainder of the season on June 3.

Gonzales made his big league debut in 2014 with St. Louis after being selected 19th overall by the Cardinals in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.

During the abbreviated 2020 season when he went 7-2 with a 3.10 ERA (69.2ip/24er) in 11 starts, he was one of four American League pitchers to rank among the top 10 leaders in wins, innings pitched and ERA along with Cleveland’s Shane Bieber, New York’s Gerrit Cole and Texas’ Lance Lynn.

Gonzales, who was also Seattle’s 2022 Roberto Clemente Award nominee, ranks eighth all-time in Mariners history in wins (61), tied for seventh in starts (148) and 10th in strikeouts (631).
