Question of the Day
A similar phrase was first used in a poem called “To a Mouse” by Robert Burns: “The best-laid schemes o’ mice an’ men / Gang aft agley, / An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain / For promis’d joy!” John Steinbeck used the last part of the phrase for the title of his popular novel Of Mice and Men, now a well-known moral fable, stage play, and movie.
