Kyle McCord, the former Ohio State starting quarterback who, entered the transfer portal in early December due to not being promised the starting job going into next year, is heading for the ACC the Syracuse Orange.
McCord made his announcement on Sunday, December 17 that he is committed to join the Orange for his senior season. He had just visited the school during the weekend.
In his only season as the starting QB for the Buckeyes, he threw for 3,170 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions with a 161.64 passer rating that ranked 14th among quarterbacks in FBS.
The attraction for McCord is that the Orange have an opening for a starting quarterback.
The do have others listed on the depth chart: Braden Davis, Carlos Del Rio-Wilson and Garrett Shrader, a transfer from Mississippi State who has been the starter since 2021. But rumors have it the Shrader might move on to another college.
The Orange went 6-6 this year and face South Florida in the Boca Raton Bowl on Thursday and have a new head coach in Fran Brown, which means an new mind with no obligation to any of the holdovers or recruits coming in like Jakhari Williams, a three-star quarterback from Macon, Georgia, who is in the 2024 signing class.
