Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has issued the following statement on the passing of former Patriots quarterback Ryan Mallett.

“I am extremely saddened by Ryan’s tragic passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the many people whose lives he touched.”

Mallett drowned in Destin, Florida, on June 27, 2023, at the age of 35. According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Mallett was caught by a rip current and unable to make it to the safety of a sandbar, drowning while swimming with his girlfriend. The National Weather Service had issued a statement warning ofrrip currents were throughout the area, although the Destin beaches were under yellow flag conditions vs. double red flags at the time of the tragedy.
