COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will close the regular season on Saturday by heading to Michigan State for a rematch with the Spartans. Tip-off is set for noon from the Breslin Center and the game will be televised on ESPN. Mark Neely and Robbie Hummel will have the call.
- Saturday’s game will be the 141st all-time meeting. The Spartans officially own the all-time series lead at 74-59.
- The Buckeyes have won the last two meetings in Value City Arena and officially hold a 9-7 edge in the previous 16 meetings in the building.
- The first meeting this season between the two teams was on Super Bowl Sunday and it wasn’t a banner day for the Buckeyes. Michigan State used a pair of runs in each half to open up a lead and held it throughout in a 62-41 victory. Sean McNeil was the lone Buckeye in double figures with 10 points as it was the fewest points scored by the Buckeyes in a Big Ten game since 41 at Michigan State on Feb. 7, 1996.
- Outside of the final score, the first meeting featured another oddity as there were just three total free throws shot in the game. Ohio State was 1-of-2 and MSU was 1-of-1. Dating back to 2000, the two free throw attempts by the Buckeyes were tied for the fewest in a game and the one by MSU was the fewest attempted by an opponent.
- The Buckeyes have won back-to-back games for the first time since winning three consecutive games at the end of December.
- Ohio State celebrated Senior Night on Wednesday vs. Maryland as seniors Justice Sueing (16), Isaac Likekele (11) and Sean McNeil (10) all scored in double figures. That was just the second that had happened this season.
- Ohio State was 20-of-20 from the free throw line vs. Maryland, marking its most free throw makes without a miss in program history and it was the third game this season going perfect from the line with 10 or makes.
- Freshman big man Felix Okpara is coming off his second double-double of the season with season-highs of 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three blocks. He is tied for eighth in the Big Ten with 34 blocked shots.
- Bruce Thornton has averaged 16.3 points over the last three games while shooting over 57 percent.
- Brice Sensabaugh is just nine points away from 500, as he’s looking to become just the sixth Buckeye rookie to score 500 points in their first season. He would join D’Angelo Russell, Michael Redd, Jared Sullinger, Kosta Koufos and Greg Oden.
