BLUE JACKETS NOTE OF THE GAME

«  RW Kirill Marchenko notched his first career NHL hat trick (3-0-3), becoming the sixth rookie in franchise history to accomplish the feat and the first rookie on any team to score a hat trick in 2022-23.  He now has goals in four of his last seven games (6-0-6, overall 8-0-8 in 15 GP).  Scoring all three CBJ goals tonight, he recorded the seventh natural hat trick in franchise history.  He is just the fourth rookie in franchise history to score multiple power play goals in a regular-season game with two tonight and is the first rookie on any team this season to score two power play goals in one game.

BLUE JACKETS TEAM NOTES

  • The Blue Jackets snapped their two-game losing streak with tonight’s 4-3 shootout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes.  The club won for the second time in three home games and improved to 8-7-1 in the last 16 games at Nationwide Arena.
  • The winning team in the series has scored four-plus goals in six consecutive games and seven of the last eight contests (including shootout goals).
  • CBJ killed off four-of-six Hurricanes’ power play attempts tonight and have now killed off 13-of-16 of Carolina’s power play attempts over the last five outings (81.3 pct.).
  • With D Marcus Bjork’s assist, Columbus’ blueliners have now recorded 3-7-10 in the last seven contests and 16-41-57 in 38 games this season.
  • Blue Jackets rookies posted 3-3-6 tonight, giving them 8-6-14 over the last seven games and 21-24-45 in 38 games in 2022-23.  Three rookies combined to factor on Columbus’ opening goal, scored by RW Kirill Marchenko with assists to C Kent Johnson and D Marcus Bjork.  It is just the fourth time in Blue Jackets history that a goal was scored with all three points credited to rookies.
  • CBJ opened their seventh of 16 back-to-back sets today vs. Carolina before visiting Washington Sunday.
  • Columbus went two-for-five on the power play tonight and now has six power play goals in the last nine games (6-of-25; 24.0 pct.) and is 16-of-72 on the power play since Nov. 5 (22.2 pct.).
  • The Blue Jackets have recorded 26 multi-goal periods this season, including scoring two goals in the second period tonight.

«  The Blue Jackets were led by RW Kirill Marchenko in shots (8), D Tim Berni in hits (6), RW Mathieu Olivier in blocked shots (4) and D Andrew Peeke in TOI (25:16).

«  C Kent Johnson registered his first career multi-assist game with two assists and notched hist first career shootout winner.  He now has 4-4-8 in his last eight outings (overall 8-10-18 in 35 GP).

«  RW Emil Bemstrom tallied an assist for his second consecutive game (0-3-3) and now has 3-4-7 in his last eight contests with the Blue Jackets dating back to Nov. 19 (overall 4-5-9 in 12 GP).  He improved to 2-4-6 in seven career games against the Hurricanes, including 1-2-3 in his last two outings and points in all four of his home games vs. the club (1-3-4).

«  D Marcus Bjork recorded his eighth assist of the season to give him 1-4-5 in his last eight games (overall, 3-8-11 in 24 GP).

«  C Cole Sillinger registered his fifth assist of the campaign and now has 2-5-7 in 35 appearances.
