Twins add another bat to lineup; gets Kyle Farmer from cost-cutting Reds

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired infielder Kyle Farmer from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for right-handed pitcher Casey Legumina.

Farmer, 32, played 145 games for the Reds last season, hitting .255 (134-for-526), with 25 doubles, one triple, 14 home runs, 78 RBI, 58 runs scored and a .315 on-base percentage, including a slash line vs. left-handed pitching of .309/.380/.568. The Atlanta, Georgia native was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the eighth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Georgia and has played parts of six major league seasons with the Dodgers and Reds, hitting .254 (342-for-1344) with 61 doubles, four triples, 39 home runs, 183 RBI and 146 runs scored with a .311 on-base percentage in 480 career games.

Legumina, who was added to the Twins’ 40-man roster on Tuesday, pitched for both High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita last season, combining to go 2-6 with a 4.80 ERA (86.1 IP, 46 ER), three saves, 36 walks and 92 strikeouts in 33 games (16 starts).
