THREE THINGS TO KNOW:
- Last week, OT Peter Skoronski was named to the Midseason All-America Team by Pro Football Focus and the Associated Press. Skoronski is graded as the top pass-protector in the country by PFF, with a 93.0 pass blocking grade. He has allowed only four pressures on 362 pass-blocking snaps. According to PFF, his 81.0 run-blocking grade also ranks 5th best among all Power 5 tackles. Skoronski is a consensus first-round pick in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft.
- QB Brendan Sullivan completed 23-of-30 passes for 159 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 INT last week against Iowa. Sullivan has completed 75% of his passes in back-to-back games, making him the first NU starting QB to do so since Dan Persa in 2011. Sullivan is also the first player to pass for a touchdown in each of his first three appearances with Northwestern since Trevor Siemian in 2011.
- This is Northwestern and Ohio State’s first meeting since the 2020 Big Ten Championship, which the Buckeyes won 22-10. Northwestern led at the half, 10-6, and limited Buckeyes QB Justin Fields to 12-of-27 passing with 2 INT and just 114 passing yards, the lowest output during his Buckeye career. DB AJ Hampton, Jr. eclipsed his career-high in tackles with 8 (recording six on the first drive alone). DB Cam Mitchell recorded his first-career interception in the second half after seeing increased playing time once Wildcat CB/eventual 1st round pick Greg Newsome left the game with an injury in the 2nd quarter. RB Cam Porter made his first-career start and gave the Wildcats an early 7-3 lead with a 9-yard TD run on the ‘Cats’ first drive of the game, Northwestern held on to that lead until 2:41 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
