Ohio State Buckeyes Football Feature: QB C.J. Stroud and Game Notes from win over Arkansas State

  • Today’s game marks the first time Ohio State and Arkansas State have played. Ohio State is now 1-0 against the Red Wolves.
  • After today’s win, Ryan Day’s non-conference record improves to 10-3, with a home record of 20-1, moving him to 36-4 all-time. After his first 40 games, he is the second winningest coach in school history behind Urban Myer (37-3)
  • Ohio State has scored 20 or more points in 63 consecutive games, moving into a tie for second place in FBS history with USC’s 2002-06 streak. Oklahoma holds the record with 69 games from 2016-21.
  • Marvin Harrison Jr. is the second player in Ohio State history to have two games with three receiving touchdowns. Joey Galloway was the first, with three TDs against Michigan State in 1993 and again against Purdue in 1994. Marvin Harrison Jr.’s first time was vs. Utah in the Rose Bowl.
  • In total, Harrison Jr. had a career-best seven receptions for 184 yards. His average of 26.3 yards per reception is the seventh-best in school history. Harrison Jr. had four receptions for 137 yards, with two touchdowns (both for 42 yards), in the first half. In the third quarter he had a 30-yard catch for a score.
  • Emeka Egbuka had a career high 118 receiving yards and 27 rushing yards for his first 100-plus receiving yard game of his career.
  • With the 100-plus receiving yard performances from Harrison Jr. and Egbuka, Ohio State players have now combined for 199 such outings in school history.
  • The Buckeyes averaged 10.0 yards per attempt, just behind the record of 10.3 yards set in 2021 against Minnesota. Against Arkansas State, Ohio State had 538 yards on 54 plays.
  • Mike Hall and Steele Chambers each had a sack in the game. Chambers and Cody Simon led the Buckeyes with six total tackles each. Hall has a sack in back-to-back games and led the Buckeyes in tackles for loss vs. the Red Wolves.
  • C.J. Stroud ended the game with four touchdown passes, his eighth career game with four or more TD passes. All four TD passes were 30 yards or longer, with the long a 51-yard strike to Egbuka.
  • Noah Ruggles connected on his lone field goal attempt vs. the Red Wolves and is now 21-of-23 in his career (.913), the highest career field goal percentage in program history.
