COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled forward Stefan Matteau from the taxi squad and assigned defenseman Gabriel Carlsson to the taxi squad, club General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.
Matteau, 26, has registered five goals and five assists for 10 points with 32 penalty minutes in 73 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, Vegas Golden Knights, Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils. Last season, he tallied 2-1-3 and five penalty minutes in nine outings with the Columbus, while adding 12-16-28 and 41 penalty minutes in 50 games with the American Hockey League’s Cleveland Monsters. New Jersey’s first pick, 29th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft, he has collected 69-77-146 and 408 penalty minutes in 361 career AHL games since the 2013-14 campaign.
Carlsson, 24, has tallied 0-3-3 and eight penalty minutes in 23 career regular season NHL games, while also appearing in five career contests in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Selected by Columbus in the first round, 29th overall, at the 2015 NHL Draft, he has added 6-24-30 and 44 penalty minutes in 144 AHL games with Cleveland, including 2-10-12 and 14 penalty minutes in 41 games in 2019-20. He has yet to appear in a game with the Blue Jackets this season.
The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when they visit the Carolina Hurricanes. Game time from PNC Arena is 7 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Ohio and the FOX Sports Go app. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with the “Blue Jackets Live” pre-game show. The game will also be broadcast on the Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs Blue Jackets Radio Network, including flagship station 97.1 The Fan.
