TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have reinstated outfielder Gilberto Celestino from the COVID Injured List.
Celestino has missed the Twins’ last nine games since being placed on the Injured List on May 27. He has hit .324 (24-for-74) with four doubles, four RBI, seven walks, 10 runs scored, a .398 on-base percentage and a .776 OPS in 31 games for the Twins this season. The 23-year-old enters today among the major league rookie leaders (minimum of 70 at-bats) in batting average (1st), on-base percentage (2nd) and OPS (7th).
To make room for Celestino on the 26-man roster, the Twins have returned right-handed pitcher Chi Chi González to Triple-A. González, whose contract was selected from Triple-A yesterday, made the start for the Twins last night against the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing three runs on four hits, with no walks and one strikeout in 3.0 innings. He will remain with the team in Toronto on the club’s taxi squad.
