Flyer Running Back One Of Just Nine To Repeat As Academic All-Americans
AUSTIN, Texas – For the sixth consecutive year, the University of Dayton football program has a student-athlete named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team. Junior running back Jake Chisholm was named First Team Academic All-America for the 2020-21 academic year.
Chisholm was named Second Team Academic All-America in 2019, and is one of just nine football players to earn Academic All-America honors in the last two years. He is also just the 10th Flyer to be named an Academic All-American at least twice, dating back to UD’s first Academic All-American in 1970.
A pre-med major with a 3.98 GPA, Chisholm was one of two sophomores named Academic All-America in 2019. He led FCS in all-purpose yardage (204.3 yards a game) in 2019, and was named First Team All-PFL after finishing second in rushing (112.9) by .02 yards a game. He led qualified PFL rushers in yards per carry (7.4).
He also caught 21 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, and returned 29 kickoffs for a 23.6 yard average.
The Union, Ky. native has minors in Biology, Chemistry and Medicine In Society. He has already been named a team captain in 2021.
This brings the total for Dayton football Academic All-Americans to 64 since the first one in 1970. The Flyers have had 34 since 2000.
Among schools playing Division I football, only Nebraska (107) and Penn State (66) have had more Academic All-Americans than Dayton’s 64. Notre Dame (61), Ohio State (56) and Oklahoma (54) are next.
In order for a student-athlete to be eligible for Academic All-American recognition, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 (on a scale of 4.00). This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, football Academic All-Americans were chosen based on their career accomplishments.
