Northwestern Wildcats RB Cam Porter named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

Cam Porter

Evanston, Ill.- Northwestern running back Cam Porter was named as the Big Ten’s Freshman of the Week following his career-day against Illinois on Dec. 12.

Porter’s 142 yards (career-high) on the ground were the ninth-most in a game by a Wildcat first-year and his two rushing touchdowns were a personal best. He is the only player on Northwestern this season to record a rushing score in back-to-back games and the first to do so since quarterback Andrew Marty found the end zone against Minnesota (Nov. 23) and Illinois (Nov. 30) in 2019.

Porter becomes the second Wildcat this season to earn the conference’s newcomer weekly award, joining defensive back Brandon Joseph who has won it twice. Northwestern has had four players receive weekly recognition from the Big Ten, earning freshman of the week three times while linebackers Blake Gallagher and Chris Bergin each won Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season.
