Henry Kessler
Following in the wake of recent Revs SuperDraft selections to make major
impacts in their rookie seasons – including Brandon Bye, DeJuan Jones,
and Tajon Buchanan – Henry Kessler has also fit right in at the professional level. Kessler has appeared in all but one game across all competitions
of his season, and took home Revolution Defender of the Year honors for his
play, becoming the first rookie to win the award since A.J. Soares (2011).
The 22-year-old center back led the Revolution in interceptions (34), tackles won (21), possessions won (123), and clearances (83). Kessler, the
sixth-overall MLS SuperDraft selection out of Virginia, also paced all 2020
selections in games played (22), starts (19), and minutes played (1,823).
Kessler again showed his meddle in the team’s three playoff wins, playing
all 90 minutes in central defense in each match. Among all rookies, he
finished the season tied for most games played, and came in at second in
games started and minutes played:
