CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Scott Turner, a four-year Illini letterwinner and the current United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, will serve as the Illinois football team’s honorary captain against #1 Ohio State on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on FOX.
Scott played for the Fighting Illini from 1991-94, starting 15 career games (12 at defensive back, 3 at wide receiver) before a nine-year NFL career with the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and Denver Broncos. He was a seventh-round pick in the 1995 NFL Draft by Washington.
Turner was confirmed by the United States Senate on February 5, 2025, to be the 19th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He previously served as Executive Director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council.
Turner is a native of Richardson, Texas, and attended J. J. Pearce High School. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1995.
