DAYTON – Wright State head men’s basketball coach Clint Sargent has announced the addition of transfer Bryan Etumnu to join the Raider program.
Etumnu (pronounced uh-two-new), a 6-7 forward from Sugar Land, Texas, joins the Raiders after spending his first three seasons at Merrimack and he comes to Wright State fresh off a season that earned him MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honors.
“Bryan’s size, skill set, and ability to be an elite level defender is exactly what we were looking to add to our roster,” Sargent said. “He comes from a winning program and has experienced a culture that is very similar to what we have here at Wright State. Bryan’s character and family are a perfect fit for our locker room and Wright State community.
Etumnu led the MAAC with 73 blocks in 2024-25, with his 2.28 blocks per game average also tops in the conference, finishing with the 16th-most total blocks nationally and the No. 14-ranked blocks per game average. Etumnu notched three games with six blocks last season, his career-best, with all three instances coming on the road – at Canisius, at Quinnipiac and at Iona. He averaged 6.1 rebounds per game last season with five games of 10-plus boards, collecting five or more rebounds in 22 of 32 games.
Etumnu started 55 games over the last two seasons at Merrimack, averaging 8.4 points per game and over 30 minutes per night in 2024-25 to go along with his defensive efforts. He shot 51.8 percent from the floor overall last season and is a 53 percent shooter for his career while connecting at over 70 percent at the free throw line. Etumnu tallied three double-double efforts in 2024-25 with 13 total double-digit scoring efforts, including a career-best 21 points last January against Manhattan, and had five or more points in 27 games last season.
After appearing in nine games as a freshman in 2022-23, Etumnu was named the NEC’s Most Improved Player in 2023-24 after averaging 7.3 points and 3.9 rebounds with 64 blocks, and was second in the NEC in blocks per game average. Prior to joining Merrimack, Etumnu prepped at Kempner High School in Sugar Land.
