The Buckeyes will compete at the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2018
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14 Ohio State women’s golf team punched its ticket to the NCAA Championships with a third-place finish at the NCAA Columbus Regional at the OSU Scarlet Course on Wednesday.
“I’m incredibly proud of the effort this team has shown all season,” said head coach Lisa Strom. “We’ve been looking forward to hosting regionals on our home course, and earning a spot at nationals feels like getting back where we belong. This group rises to every challenge, and this week was no different. They’re learning the power of disciplined action, and I truly believe the best is still ahead of us.”
This will be Ohio State’s first trip to the NCAA Championships since 2018. The Buckeyes carded a five-under 283 in the final round of play to finish with a 54-hole score of 865 (+1). Ohio State was tied for third in pars with 172 and was fourth in birdies with 41. The Buckeyes were also third in par 3 scoring (five-under) and par 5 scoring (4.92).
Faith Choi and Nellie Ong finished tied for sixth place, both carding a three-round score of 215 (-1).
Choi had a phenomenal day on the course, jumping 15 spots up the leaderboard after firing a four-under 68. She birdied seven holes, including holes six through nine on the front nine. Choi was five-under on par 5s, which was second-best among the field of 66 players. She was tied for fourth in birdies with 12.
Ong carded an even 72 on Wednesday. She picked up two birdies in the third round. Ong was four-under one par 5s, which was tied for third-best among the field.
Kary Hollenbaugh was under par in round three, carding a 70 (-2). She had three birdies, and she finished tied for 10th place with an overall score of 216 (E). She was tied for most pars among the field of players with 40.
Marina Joyce-Moreno tied for 35th place. She shot 75 (+3) in the final round to finished with a 54-hole score of 226 (+10).
Mandy Song moved eight spots up the leaderboard to finish tied for 45th place. She shot 73 (+1) and birdied four holes. She had a 54-hole score of 228 (+12).
The NCAA Championships take place May 16-21 in Carlsbad, Calif. at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
