Buckeyes finish the season 14-3
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State men’s lacrosse team’s 2025 season came to a close in the NCAA Tournament First Round Sunday, falling to two-time defending national champion Notre Dame, 15-6. The No. 4 seed Buckeyes finish the year 14-3.
Both teams made stops early before Notre Dame scored first at 9:38 in the first quarter. Ohio State’s Alex Marinier tied the game at 5:51 to and the Buckeyes went on a three-goal run with back-to-back goals from Garrett Haas for a 3-1 lead early in the second quarter.
Notre Dame responded with a scoring run of it’s own, tallying six goals in the second quarter. Marinier recorded his 13th multi-goal game of the season as the second quarter clock expired and the Fighting Irish took a 7-4 advantage into the half.
Marinier went on to score twice more in the second half, the first goal of the third quarter and the Buckeyes’ final goal at 10:52 in the fourth, to register his ninth hat trick of the season with four goals on the day. Notre Dame outscored the Buckeyes 8-2 in the second half to take the 15-6 win.
Caleb Fyock finished the game with 15 saves, his 12th game of the season with double digit saves. He finished the year with a .612 save percentage.
The Buckeyes’ 2025 season, despite ending in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, was one for the record book. The team won the program’s first Big Ten regular season and tournament titles, won the Creator’s Trophy and earned 14 wins for just the fifth time in the program’s 76-year history. Also hitting milestone marks were Marinier, who became just the third Buckeye to record 50 goals in a single campaign, and Cullen Brown, who finished the year with a program record 34 caused turnovers with one on the final game of the season.
