Blue Jackets blasts Washington 7-0 as Adam Fantilli leads way with 2 goals; Jet Greaves wins again in goal

BLUE JACKETS TEAM NOTES

  • Columbus scored seven goals tonight against Washington, the most tallied in franchise history against the Capitals at Nationwide Arena (prev. 5 – 4x, Feb. 26, 2018 most recent, 5-1 W) and tied for the most scored all-time (Mar. 21, 2023; 7-6 OTW at WSH).
  • It was also the largest victory in the all-time series against Washington, surpassing two four-goal victories (MR: Feb. 26, 2018, 5-1 W at CBJ).
  • The Jackets have picked up points in two-straight against the Capitals (1-0-1) in the 2024-25 series.
  • Columbus killed off all three of Washington’s power plays opportunities today and have now shut down 15-of-the-last-17 (88.2 pct.) penalties in the series.
  • CBJ swept their three-game homestand, defeating Ottawa (5-2), Buffalo (3-2) and Washington (7-0).
  • CBJ improved to 13-5-2 in the last 20 home games in 2024-25.  The team has recorded points in 21 of the past 27 home contests (17-6-4) as well as in 26 of the last 33 played at home (21-7-5).
  • Columbus’ 55 points are tied for the second-most points at home in a single season (2017-18), trailing only the 57 points recorded in 2016-17.
  • The Jackets scored six-plus goals tonight for the 15th time this season, which leads the NHL in 2024-25 (Washington, 13).
  • Columbus (189) surpassed Washington (187) for the most goals scored this season at 5v5 after netting seven today at even strength.
  • The club has recorded 254 goals (not including SO goals) in 2024-25, the most through 79 games in a single season in franchise history, surpassing the 249 scored in 2021-22.
  • The Jackets scored in all three periods for the 27th time this season.
  • Tonight’s attendance was a sellout crowd of 18,645, the Blue Jackets’ 14th of the season.  Columbus has had beyond capacity crowds in nine of the past 15 games played at Nationwide Arena since Jan. 25 (17,700 avg.).

 

BLUE JACKETS PLAYER NOTES 

  • The club has five 50-point scorers after Fantilli’s two goals today, joining Zach Werenski, Kirill Marchenko, Kent Johnson, and Sean Monahan. The five players are tied for the most in a season in CBJ history with the 2009-10 and 2016-17 campaigns.
  • Jet Greaves pitched his first career NHL shutout today after stopping all 22 shots faced.  He improved to 4-2-2 in 2024-25 with all four wins in his last five starts.
  • Dante Fabbro (7-17-24, 65 GP) assisted to tie his single season career high in points (3-21-24 in 2021-22) and has 2-6-8 in his last nine games played.
  • Adam Fantilli (27-23-50, 79 GP) scored twice for his team-leading fifth multi-goal game of the campaign and has picked up 3-0-3 in the last three contests.  He became the fourth Blue Jackets player with 50 points in a season at age 20 or younger following Pierre-Luc Dubois (61 in 2018-19), Rick Nash (57 in 2003-04) and Jakub Voracek (50 in 2009-10).
  • RW Kent Johnson (23-32-55, 65 GP) posted his 12th multi-point game today with 1-1-2 and has collected points in three-straight games (1-4-5) as well as has 1-8-9 in his last seven outings.
  • RW Kirill Marchenko (31-41-72, 76 GP) registered an assist to surpass Ryan Johansen (71 in 2014-15) for the eighth-most points in a single season in Blue Jackets history.
  • Denton Mateychuk (4-9-13, 42 GP) registered an assist for the second time in his last three games (0-2-2).
  • Sean Monahan (19-34-53, 51 GP) posted his 15th multi-point game of the season with 1-1-2 and has collected 2-2-4 on a three-game points streak.  He improved his career mark against Washington to 9-8-17 in 23 games, with 1-3-4 in 2024-25 and 2-4-6 in the last six games overall as well as 3-4-7 in his last eight at home.
  • RW Mathieu Olivier (18-14-32, 79 GP) has recorded 1-2-3 in his last three games as well as 6-5-11 in his last 17 played after picking up an assist against the Capitals.
  • Cole Sillinger (10-21-31, 63 GP) scored his first goal since Feb. 2 at Dallas and has reached double-digit goals for the third time in his career.
  • LW James van Riemsdyk (16-28-34, 68 GP) tallied his second three-point contest of the season with a goal and two assists this afternoon.  He also posted his second career Gordie Howe hat trick (goal, assist, fight), first accomplishing the feat with Philadelphia on Feb. 15, 2011 at Tampa Bay.  He has points in back-to-back games (2-2-4).  He improved to 16-19-35 with nine multi-point contests in 52 career contests against Washington, including 4-3-7 in last seven games overall.
  • LW Dmitri Voronkov (21-24-45, 70 GP) collected an assist for points in back-to-back games (1-1-2).
  • Zach Werenski (21-56-77, 77 GP) scored to set a new single season franchise record for goals among defensemen, surpassing the 20 he netted in 2023-24.  He has also surpassed LW Ray Whitney (24-52-76 in 2002-02) for the fourth-most points in a single season in club history with his goal.  He has picked up 1-2-3 during a three-game points streak and also has scored the most goals by a U.S.-born defenseman in a single campaign since Mathieu Schneider (21 in 2005-06).  He improved his career mark against the Capitals to 4-6-10 in 24 career games, with a goals in two-straight and points in four of his last six home contests (2-2-4).
