CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s series opener vs. Boston, the Chicago White Sox selected the contract of infielder Chase Meidroth from Class AAA Charlotte and optioned outfielder Greg Jones to Charlotte. To make room for Meidroth on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated right-handed pitcher Justin Anderson for assignment.
Meidroth, 24, is rated by MLB.com as the No. 8 prospect in the White Sox organization. He is batting .267/.450/.500 (8-30) with a double, three home runs, four RBI, 11 runs scored and eight walks in nine games with Charlotte this season, his first in the Sox system.
Meidroth, 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds, was acquired from Boston on December 11, 2024 with catcher Kyle Teel, outfielder Braden Montgomery and right-handed pitcher Wikelman González in exchange for left-hander Garrett Crochet.
He is a career .285/.425/.414 (268-942) hitter with 45 doubles, 23 homers, 133 RBI, 195 runs scored and 207 walks in 264 games over parts of four minor-league seasons. Meidroth led all MiLB players with 105 walks in 2024 and ranked third with a .437 on-base percentage.
A native of Torrance, Calif, Meidroth originally was selected by the Red Sox in the fourth round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of San Diego. He will wear uniform No. 10.
Jones, 27, was recalled from Charlotte on Wednesday but did not appear in a game with the White Sox.
Anderson, 32, has appeared in four games with Charlotte this season, allowing five runs over 5.2 IP, after recording a 4.39 ERA (26 ER/53.1 IP) with 57 strikeouts over 56 appearances with the White Sox in 2024.
Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
