MLS coaches come and go every season!
Some aren’t going to be given long to win or get fired.
Thus is the case with CF Montreal.
Since the 2021 season, the blue and white are on their five head coaches after firing Laurent Courtois on March 24. Not only that, but 10 coaches since entering Major League Soccer in 2012.
The only successful coach in that bunch was Wilfried Nancy, who had in 79 games, was 37-25-17. But for some reason, the owner, Joey Saputo, did not like him for some reason, according to media members who cover the team on a regular basis. Nancy has had nothing but success in Columbus with the Crew winning the 2023 MLS Cup, runner-up in 2024 CONCACAF and 2024 Leagues Cup in 3 years.
Courtois became the first MLS coach fired this season, after his team opened with four losses and a tie.
CF Montreal hasn’t scored since an opening 3-2 loss to Atlanta on February 22, which was the first of seven straight league road games.
Assistant coach Marco Donadel was promoted to interim coach.
The 41-year-old native of Italy, has playing and coaching experience overseas with Milan, Florentina and Napoli. He played with the Montreal Impact, the team’s former name, where he played 67 games with 3 goals from 2015-2018. His career highlight was a 30-yard strike in a 3–0 home win against the Columbus Crew on 11 July 2015, was voted MLS Goal of the Week for the 19th week of that season.
One wonders how long will it be when he gets the hook.
