Wright State Men’s Basketball News: Noel, Callaghan earn Horizon League honors

INDIANAPOLIS/DAYTON – The Wright State men’s basketball team saw a pair of players earn Horizon League honors, the league office announced Monday, headlined by Brandon Noel’s second team recognition, while Solomon Callaghan was named to the all-freshman team.

In addition to the freshman nod, Callaghan was also a finalist for the Horizon League Sportsmanship Award.

This is the second-straight second team selection for Noel, who enters the postseason averaging 33.8 minutes per game, the 6th-most in the Horizon League, while his 1,047-plus total minutes played is second in the Horizon. He is currently averaging 19.2 points per game, tied for tops in the Horizon League, and 8.0 rebounds per game, third in the HL. His 595 total points scored in No. 13 in the country while his scoring average is No. 34 nationally.

Noel is shooting 54.9 percent overall from the floor, fourth in the Horizon and Top 50 nationally, while his 224 field goals made is tops in the Horizon and seventh in the country. He has recorded double figures scoring in 27 of 31 games and has recorded 20-plus points 17 times this season with nine double-doubles on the season (six in Horizon League contests) and five additional games with nine rebounds.

Solomon Callaghan

Callaghan has played in 30 games with nine starts entering the postseason, averaging over 22 minutes per game while tallying 6.8 points per contest. He is shooting 41.2 percent overall with a 39.8 percent three-point shooting mark. His scoring average increased to 7.5 points per game in Horizon League contests, with his overall shooting mark up to 43 percent and a 41.8 percent from three-point range.

Callaghan has recorded eight double digit scoring games, with six of those coming in Horizon League action, including five straight double-digit performances from February 8-27. He tallied a career-high 21 points at Green Bay while he also had a 16-point effort at Milwaukee and had 15 points against both Kentucky and South Florida.
