BOSTON/DAYTON – Wright State head coach Clint Sargent has been named as one of 16 finalists for the 2024-25 Joe B. Hall award, CollegeInsider.com announced on Monday. The award is presented annually to the top first-time head coach in division I college basketball.
Wright State currently boosts the 11th-best field goal percentage in the country at 49.0 percent, while the Raiders’ effective field goal percentage of 56.1 is No. 24 nationally and their 38.6 percent team three-point shooting mark is 12th in the country.
Sargent’s first-year Raider résumé includes non-conference wins over Miami (OH), Princeton, Air Force and Marshall. The November win at Miami (OH) remains the only home loss for Miami (OH) through March 1, while the RedHawks are currently ranked No. 21 in CollegeInsider Mid-Major Poll. Wright State’s schedule also includes a one-possession loss to Bradley, currently ranked No. 10 in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Poll and an 18-point win over Princeton, currently receiving votes in CollegeInsider Mid-Major Poll.
Sargent and the Raiders also have a win over Horizon League regular season champion Robert Morris, currently ranked No. 22 in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major Poll and a victory over Cleveland State, currently receiving votes in CollegeInsider Mid-Major Poll.
Wright State enters the postseason with nine losses by one possession or overtime, the second-most in the country behind UT Martin’s nine. The Raiders have played in 12 total games that were either one possession or OT contests through the end of the regular season.
