RedHawks Travel to Southeast Ohio for 1 PM Saturday Afternoon Contest against arch-rival Bobcats

SATURDAY: Miami continues conference play by traveling to face off with Ohio on Saturday, March 1 at 1 p.m. Entering this game, the RedHawks rank fifth nationally in three-point percentage (.395), eighth in effective field goal percentage (.574), 16th in threes per game (10.5), 26th in turnovers forced per game (14.82), 20th in field goal percentage (.487), 29th in scoring offense (81.6) and 40th in turnover margin (2.7). Miami also leads the MAC in six statistical categories, including steals per game (8.3).

ABOUT OHIO: Ohio is coming off a 20-13 (13-5 MAC) season in 2023-24. Head coach Jeff Boals is in his sixth season with the Bobcats. Heading into the 2024-25 season, the MAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll picked the Bobcats to finish first in the conference. Aj Clayton was a First Team Preseason All-MAC selection, while Shereef Mitchell and AJ Brown were named to the Second Team.

Ohio is currently 15-13 (9-6 MAC), having dropped its last game to Western Michigan in Kalamazoo 82-73. Ohio’s top performers include Clayton (14.2), Jackson Paveletzke (13.4), Brown (13.4) and Mitchell (12.9). Clayton also leads the team with 5.5 rebounds per game and 1.6 blocks per game. Paveletzke leads the team with 4.9 assists per game (third in the conference), and Mitchell leads the team with an average of 1.7 steals per game.

THE SERIES WITH THE BOBCATS: Saturday will mark the 217th time Miami and Ohio have faced off. The RedHawks head into this game trailing in the series 120-96. Ohio has the advantage at home in the series, 73-27. The last time Miami faced off with the Bobcats, the Red and White secured a 73-69 win in Oxford on Feb. 1, 2025.

UP NEXT: The RedHawks stay on the road for a contest against the Buffalo Bulls on Tuesday, March 4 at 7 p.m. Miami follows this up by returning home to host Ball State on Friday, March 7 at 6 p.m. in Oxford, Ohio. This game has been selected for a national telecast on ESPNU.

RECENT ACTION: The Miami University men’s basketball team shut down Northern Illinois 87-58 Tuesday night. Eian Elmer and Brant Byers each scored a game-high 22 points. The RedHawks dished out 25 assists (tied for third-most this season). Cooper totaled six steals (tied for seventh all-time in Miami single-game history). Miami shot over 50% from the field for the 12th time this season. The RedHawks recorded 49 bench points. The RedHawks also outrebounded NIU 44 to 24.

SEASON SUCCESS: Miami has reached 21 wins in a season for the first time since 1998-99 and set a new record for the most consecutive home wins (14) in a single season. The RedHawks have also secured the program’s most MAC wins since 2005-06.

MID-MAJOR TOP 25 COACHES POLL: The Miami University men’s basketball team was selected to the Mid-Major Top 25® Poll for the seventh consecutive week on Monday. The RedHawks now rank No. 21 in the rankings after going 1-1 last week. Now in its 26th season, the Mid-Major Top 25® is voted on by 31 Division I coaches.
