Xavier Wins Third Straight Game, Tops Butler on Tuesday Night with 76-63 win over DePaul

CINCINNATI –  Four Musketeers reached double figures on Tuesday night as the Musketeers extended their winning streak to three games with a 76-63 win over Butler at Cintas Center.

The Musketeers improved to 17-10 (9-7 BIG EAST), while the Bulldogs dropped to 12-14 (5-10 BIG EAST).

The Musketeers continue BIG EAST action at Seton Hall on Sunday, Feb. 23. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. with the game being aired nationally on FS1.

NOTABLE
  • The opening quarter had seven lead changes and three ties. With the game tied 19-19 with 12:23 left in the first half, the Musketeers went on a 12-2 run – taking their first double-figure lead (31-21). Xavier never relinquished the double-figure advantage and led by 17 points at the break (48-31).
  • Xavier led by as many as 18 points (72-54) with 4:53 left in regulation. Butler ended the game on a 9-4 to make the final ledger, 76-63. Ryan Conwell and Zach Freemantle each scored eight points in the second half.
  • Ryan Conwell and Zach Freemantle paced the Musketeers with 14 points each. Freemantle added five rebounds and three steals, while Conwell chipped in four rebounds and four assists.
  • Dayvion McKnight and Dailyn Swain both added 13 points. McKnight also dished out a team-high five assists. Swain chipped in seven rebounds, four assists and a game and career-high six steals.
  • Marcus Foster finished with nine points, four rebounds and two assists. Dante Maddox Jr. had two steals and a team-high eight rebounds in 15 minutes of action off the bench.
  • The Musketeers posted a .426 field-goal percentage (29-for-68) and went 8-for-25 from behind the arc. Xavier was also 10-for-11 from the foul line.
  • Xavier had 14 steals, the team’s sixth game of the year with 10 or more steals.
  • The Musketeers forced 20 Butler turnovers, the second most turnovers in a game for the Bulldogs this season. Xavier held a 20-9 advantage in points off of turnovers.
  • Butler won the battle on the glass, 38-33, and scored two more second-chance points (6-4).
  • The Musketeers held a 38-26 advantage in points in the paint and scored 11 more fastbreak points (19-8) than the Bulldogs. Xavier also scored four more bench points (13-9) than Butler.
  • Butler hit 43.6 percent (24-for-55) of it shot attempts and went 6-for-23 from three-point range. The Bulldogs were also 9-for-14 from the foul line.
