COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State completes its three-game home stretch by hosting Northwestern on Thursday evening at Value City Arena. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on FS1. Chris Vosters and Robbie Hummel will call the action.

The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.

  • Ohio State has dominated the all-time series with Northwestern 123-50. The Buckeyes are 71-16 in Columbus vs. the Wildcats, including 15-2 at Value City Arena.
  • The Buckeyes have also fared well playing Northwestern on February 20, as they are 7-0 against the Wildcats on that date with wins in 1939, 1968, 1971, 1982, 1988, 1999 and 2019.
  • Last year, in the team’s lone meeting of the season, the Wildcats shot out to an early lead was able to hold on down the stretch for an 83-58 victory in Evanston on Jan. 27.
  • The Buckeyes are currently No. 29 in the NET rankings and No. 27 in Kenpom.
  • Ohio State is coming off a back-and-forth game with Big Ten leading Michigan on Sunday. The game featured 16 lead changes and the Wolverines were able to get the last stop in an 86-83 victory. Sophomore Devin Royal made a career-high tying three three-pointers to lead the Buckeyes with a game-high 26 points. Sean Stewart made both of his shot attempts and grabbed a career-high tying 10 rebounds.
  • Bruce Thornton has dished out 27 assists with just four turnovers in the last five games. That’s a 6.75-to-1 assist to turnover ratio. His career ratio of 2.97-to-1 would be second among active players once he qualifies with his 400th assist (just 26 away).
  • Freshman John Mobley Jr. continues to shoot it well from deep. He leads the Big Ten in three-pointers made with 66 and in three-point percentage at 41.8. So, he’s not just a chucker, he’s a maker!
  • Ohio State has played eight one-possession games this season. That is the most for the Buckeyes since the 2016-17 season when they also played eight games decided by three points or less.
  • The Buckeyes are a combined 3-1 when TV announcers Chris Vosters (1-0) and Robbie Hummel (2-1) are on the call. That includes wins in each of their last two Buckeye broadcasts, with Vosters at Penn State and Hummel at Purdue (that had to be fun for Robbie).
  • Northwestern has run into a bit of tough luck with injuries and has lost six of its last seven games. But the last four losses have all come by six points or fewer. Nick Martinelli has been one of the best players in the league this season as he leads the Big Ten at 19.8 ppg. Northwestern is still looking for their first true road win of the year (0-8).
