COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Big Ten Conference announced its weekly women’s basketball awards on Monday. Freshman guard Ava Watson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career. Junior forward Cotie McMahon was named to the Big Ten honor roll for the second time this season. These weekly awards were based on their performances in Thursday’s win against Minnesota.

Watson had an efficient day in Ohio State’s win against Minnesota in the Buckeyes’ lone game of the week. Watson scored 16 points off the bench and recorded a pair of steals in only 18 minutes of play, shooting 5-of-6 from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 from behind the arc. A Buckeye had not been perfect from long range with at least four makes in the past couple seasons. This season, Watson leads the Buckeye bench with 5.6 points per game and ranks second on the team with 29 made three-pointers. She’s scored in double figures six times.

McMahon led the Buckeyes to a win over the Gophers in their lone game of the week. McMahon scored a game-high 25 points and was 10-of-16 (.625) from the floor. She also tied her season-high six assists and added four rebounds. McMahon made the Buckeyes’ first two baskets of the overtime period. This season, McMahon is averaging 16.7 points per game (ranks ninth in the Big Ten), 4.7 rebounds per game and 2.4 assists per game.
