YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Miami University men’s basketball team dropped to Eastern Michigan Tuesday night 76-66 in Ypsilanti. Eian Elmer led the RedHawks with 19 points, while Kam Craft was the next-highest scorer for Miami with 11 points. Da’Sean Nelson led all players with 25 points, and Jalen Terry finished closely behind with 24 points for the Eagles. Miami falls to 19-7 (10-3 MAC), and Eastern Michigan rises to 13-13 (6-7 MAC).
How it Happened:
- The game started with back-and-forth action, as Elmer put in a couple of early layups to keep the score even at 10-10. The Eagles went on to outscore Miami 11-0, jumping ahead 21-10 with about eight minutes left before the intermission. A triple from Evan Ipsaro and a pull-up jumper from Craft brought the Red and White back within striking distance at 21-15.
- Eastern Michigan responded with another offensive run to extend its lead to 32-15. With halftime approaching, Craft scored six straight points, and Ipsaro added a layup with seconds remaining in the half to trail 35-23 heading into the intermission.
- Elmer opened the second half by scoring the first eight points for the RedHawks, leaving the score at 47-31. Dan Luers entered the game for the first time with just under 13 minutes of action to go and scored a three and a jump shot to put the score at 59-42.
- Elmer and Ipsaro each put in a shot from behind the arc to come within 13 points at 65-52. Numerous free throws and a three from Mekhi Cooper kept Miami in the fight at 73-59 with 2:40 left to play. The RedHawks attempted to fight their way back into it, ultimately dropping 76-66.
Game Notes:
- Ipsaro totaled three steals (tied for the most in his career).
- Miami recorded under 10 turnovers for the seventh time this season.
