SATURDAY: Miami continues conference play at Western Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2:30 p.m. Entering this game, the RedHawks rank fifth nationally in effective field goal percentage (0.578), sixth in three-point percentage (.398), 14th in threes per game (10.5), 16th in field goal percentage (.490), 25th in scoring offense (81.9), 35th in turnovers forced per game (14.67) and 44th in turnover margin (2.5). Miami also leads the MAC in seven statistical categories, including steals per game (8.2).
RECENT ACTION: The Miami University men’s basketball team ended Toledo’s five-game win streak 92-80 Tuesday evening. Kam Craft led all players with a career-high 40 points (13-of-22 from the field). This is the second time this season a RedHawk has scored 40 or more points; the last time Miami had two different players score 40 in the same season was in 1957-58, by Wayne Embry (40) and John Powell (43). Miami extended its home win streak to 12 games (13 is the most in program history over a single season). Miami has now won 19 games for the first time since the 2004-05 season. The RedHawks have also reached 10 conference wins for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
ROAD TO 1,000 POINTS: Junior guard Peter Suder has scored 983 total points in his career. Suder averaged 10.2 points per game (644 total points) at Bellarmine, and this season he is currently second in scoring for the RedHawks with 14.1 points per game (339 points).
ABOUT WESTERN MICHIGAN: Western Michigan is coming off a 12-20 (9-9 MAC) season in 2023-24. Head coach Dwayne Stephens is in his third season with the Broncos. Heading into the 2024-25 season, the MAC Men’s Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll picked the Broncos to finish 10th in the conference.
Western Michigan is currently 7-17 (4-7 MAC), having dropped its last three games. The Broncos have four players who average double figures in scoring, which includes Chansey Willis Jr. (16.0), JaVaughn Hannah (11.7), Markhi Strickland (11.6) and Owen Lobsinger (10.2). Willis Jr. also leads the team in assists per game (5.4) and steals per game (1.7). Lobsinger has recorded the most rebounds per game (7.0), and Max Burton leads the team in blocks per contest (0.5). Willis Jr. ranks fourth in the MAC for his scoring average and stands at fifth in the conference for his steals per game. Lobsinger holds the fourth spot in the conference for his rebounding average.
THE SERIES WITH THE BRONCOS: Tuesday will mark the 143rd time Miami and Western Michigan have faced off. The RedHawks head into this game leading 90-52 in the series. Western Michigan has the advantage in Kalamazoo, 38-32. The last time Miami faced off with the Broncos, the Red and White secured a 91-71 win in Oxford on Jan. 11, 2025.
