COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State opens a crucial three-game home stand on Wednesday night as it welcomes Wash-ington to Columbus for the first time since 1968. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on BTN. Kevin Kugler and Stephen Bardo will call the action.
The game can also be heard on the Ohio State Radio Network from Learfield. Paul Keels and former Buckeye captain Ron Stokes are on the call.
- This will be the 13th all-time meeting between the schools with Washington leading the series 8-4. This is the fifth meeting in Columbus with the schools splitting the previous four games.
- The first 11 games in series came between 1938 and 1972. The most recent meeting was in 2012 in the championship game of the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-off at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Deshaun Thomas scored 31 points to lead Ohio State to a 77-66 victory.
- The Buckeyes entered the week at No. 28 in the NET Ranking and Kenpom.
- Ohio State is right in the middle of the pack in the Big Ten standings after falling on the road last Sunday to Nebraska 79-71. The Buckeyes controlled the middle portion of the game and held an eight-point lead early in the second half. But an 11-0 Nebraska run over a five minute span did the Buckeyes in.
- Micah Parrish had a great game against the Huskers, making five three-pointers and finishing with a career-high 30 points. That topped his previous career-high of 22 points which he set in the win at No. 4 Purdue last month.
- Parrish has averaged nearly 17 points per game over the last seven games and has also recorded at least one steal in 10 of the last 11 games.
- Freshman John Mobley Jr. also made five three-pointers on Sunday at Nebraska and finished with 21 points. He has made 58 three-pointers on the season and is the only player in the conference with at least one made three in every game this season.
- The Buckeyes are shooting 37.6 percent from beyond the arc this season. That is the second-best percentage in the conference and it’s also currently the second-best percentage for the team over the last 15 years. On the other end of the floor, the Buckeyes have limited opponents to just 28.8 percent from distance, which is tops in the conference and 10th nationally.
- Bruce Thornton has averaged 20.0 per game over the last two games. But that includes his nine-point effort against Nebraska on Sunday. It was just the fourth time this season that he’s failed to reach double figures. The Fairburn, Ga., native is averaging over 17 points per game so chances are good that he gets back on track Wednesday.
- Washington had lost six consecutive games through the month of January but is coming in as winners of two of its last three, including a 76-71 win over Northwestern last Saturday. Great Osobor leads the Huskies in scoring and rebounding at 15.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game,
